These photographies were taken on the TAMSEIS Antarctic Expedition from 26 October to 13 December 2002. They show two huts that were built by Robert Falcon Scott shortly after 1900 in the early days of Antarctic exploration. They served as base camps for many expedtitions, such as the famous expeditions by Robert F. Scott and Sir Ernest H. Shackleton. The aim of this exhibition is to show the life of the men on an expedition - at a time where there were no icebreakers, GPS, or waterproof clothes.
The huts are open to anyone, yet they are an invaluable historical document from times that are long since gone. Therefore it is important to protect and to conserve the huts. For taking these photographs, no items in the huts were moved or changed, so future generations can also share the fascination of encountering such an important piece of Antarctic history.
